Building a Better Future for Girls’ Basketball: SmartPlay Project Presented in Ljubljana
On Friday, 15 May 2026, the Institute IMPACT, in cooperation with ŽKD Maribor, organised a dissemination event for the SmartPlay project at “Gimnazija Šentvid” in Ljubljana. The event was dedicated to presenting the project, its key objectives, and planned activities.
The event provided an opportunity to introduce the project’s foundations, which address an important challenge in today’s sports environment – preventing the dropout of girls from basketball. Participants were presented with how the SmartPlay project aims to contribute to a better understanding of the factors that influence motivation, well-being, sports participation, and the overall development of young female athletes.
The SmartPlay project brings together sport, non-formal education, AI-driven approaches, and collaboration among experts from various fields. Its goal is to develop innovative solutions and support mechanisms that will help create a safer, more encouraging, and more inclusive sporting environment for girls in basketball.
A special focus of the project is understanding the needs of young female basketball players and the challenges they face during different stages of their athletic development. Through the project, we aim to strengthen support for coaches, clubs, and other stakeholders, while contributing to the development of an environment in which girls feel accepted, heard, and motivated to continue their sporting journey.
On this occasion, we would like to sincerely thank all participants for their interest, support, and active involvement. We look forward to the continuation of the project activities and to our shared contribution to the development of girls’ basketball and a more supportive sporting environment for young female athletes.
