About the course

This course has been developed to help coaches, sport clubs, federations and other grassroots sport organisations better understand the factors that influence girls’ participation in sport and explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can support athlete engagement, wellbeing and retention.

Through 11 practical modules, you will learn how to identify early signs of dropout, apply athlete-centred coaching strategies, create more inclusive sport environments and use digital and AI-supported tools responsibly and ethically.

The course combines research, real-life examples, interactive activities and practical resources. While AI can provide valuable insights, SmartPlay emphasises that technology should support, rather than replace, human relationships, coaching expertise and the voices of young athletes.

Whether you are a coach, club manager, educator or sport administrator, this course will provide you with practical tools to create a more supportive and engaging sport experience for adolescent girls and help more young people stay involved in sport for the long term.
